Il y a quelques jours dans un vide-grenier, j'ai acheté un carton de passementeries. Des coupons inutilisés. Ces galons et rubans étaient utilisés en décoration, ornaient les rideaux, les embrases, les coussins, les bords de tentures...
La passementerie regroupe l'ensemble des productions en fil de toute nature (végétal, animal, métallique, ...) utilisées en décoration vestimentaire ou architecture intérieure. Elle désigne également le commerce de ces produits.
Technique[modifier]
La passementerie utilise trois sortes de métiers à tisser :
- le métier à main ;
- le métier ratière ;
- le métier à crochets pour les séries industrielles.
Passementerie et vêtement[modifier]
La passementerie étant un ornement coûteux, elle a longtemps été réservée à une élite comme signe de distinction sociale, d'un pouvoir royal, aristocratique, religieux ou militaire. Dès la fin du xviiie siècle, elle devient obsolète avec la simplification des vêtements.
Les passements les plus utilisés dans la mode sont :
- les franges moulinées (souples) ;
- les franges torses guipées (rigides) ;
- les franges méchées ou quadrillées.
Certains boutons ou brandebourgs peuvent être en passementerie.
In a little garage sale a few days ago I bought a box of unused pieces of passementerie. They were used in home decoration to embellish curtains, furniture, lampshades, cushions... Some trims have loops fringes at their edges (4th and 7th pictures), once the trim is sewn on the cushion, you take off the white thread and the fringes are free!
Passementerie or passementarie is the art of making elaborate trimmings or edgings (in French,passements) of applied braid, gold or silver cord, embroidery, colored silk, or beads for clothingor furnishings.
Modern passementerie includes the gold braid on military dress uniforms, the elaborate trims used on some lampshades and draperies, and for decorating coutureclothing and wedding gowns.
These silk trims are also called brocade or jacquard
Brocade is a class of richly decorative shuttle-woven fabrics, often made in colored silks and with or without gold andsilver threads. The name, related to the same root as the word "broccoli," comes from Italian broccato meaning "embossed cloth," originally past participle of the verb broccare "to stud, set with nails," from brocco, "small nail," fromLatin broccus, "projecting, pointed."[1]
The Jacquard loom is a mechanical loom, invented by Joseph Marie Jacquard in 1801, that simplifies the process of manufacturing textiles with complex patterns such as brocade, damask, and matelasse.[1][2] The loom is controlled bypunched cards with punched holes, each row of which corresponds to one row of the design. Multiple rows of holes are punched on each card and the many cards that compose the design of the textile are strung together in order. It is based on earlier inventions by the Frenchmen Basile Bouchon (1725), Jean Baptiste Falcon (1728) and Jacques Vaucanson (1740)[3]
