"Take a trip back in time to the 1760s at this spectacular Neo-classical mansion framed by historic parkland.
Designed for lavish entertaining and displaying an extensive collection of paintings, sculpture and original furnishings, Kedleston is a stunning example of the work of architect Robert Adam.
The Curzon family have lived here since the 12th-century and continue to live at the Hall. Lord Curzon's Eastern Museum is a treasure trove of fascinating objects acquired on his travels in Asia and while Viceroy of India (1899 to 1905).
The Hall was used as a key location for 'The Duchess', the Hollywood blockbuster staring Keira Knightley."
Curzon intended Kedleston Hall to outshine the house of his Whig neighbour the Cavendishes at Chatsworth. He employed several architects and in December 1758 he met Robert Adam, who he would employ in his reconstruction of Kedleston. Curzon's cabinet-maker of choice was John Linnell. Linnell created the arguably the most magnificent sofas of the Georgian era for the Drawing Room at Kedleston. These sofas have sea nymphs, mermen and mermaids whose tails entwine as their armrests.[2] (wikipedia)
(wikipedia)

and now the complete opposite...
welcome in my future studio that we're building out of a derelict 4 walls neglected room which included a leaking water tank and old toilets that we had transformed 9 years ago for the washing machine... Electricity and pumbing have to be installed again from scratch
This exciting adventure began last spring with the demolition here : http://lucietales.blogspot.fr/2014/05/atelier-atelier-after-wrecking-party-we.html
and there : http://lucietales.blogspot.fr/2014/03/spring-time-cest-le-printemps-and-then.html

The old WC have been demolished to be rebuilt, now the entrance won't be from the outside anymore, they will have a tiny window looking out onto the terrace.
Okay, it's a little rough for now but I will gain some more square meters and 4 times more daylight!!!! It's like a dream, I'm so excited!!!! It's a huge project that takes our full time and fortunately we have the help of my father in law Pierre and Sophie
Electricity wires and wooden structure to fix the insulation panels
Hemp panels and mineral woollen panels then a kind of film to avoid humidity and dust to come through
Here is the team (and me behind the camera)

That's all for now! I had hoped that I would have some time and energy left to work on new pieces in the actual studio but no, each evening I fall exhausted just after dinner... but so happy!
I'm definitely going to visit Kedlestone Hall, it looks amazing. That blue is exquisite and the curved door is stunning. The view from your door is enticing and it's great to see your studio is progressing.
