Pause estivale et jeu de l'été
Summer break and a little game

Summer is settling in. The figs are not ripe yet, this picture was taken last year…
from-the-sea
ça me rend folle, et dépressive.

Since several weeks, the pain and inflammation in my right hand are back and forbidding any bench or assemblage activity.
I don't know how to deal with the frustration not being able to work. For fear of the pain, I'm stiff ... and it triggers the pain. It's driving me insane.
Away from the house and the studio, not having to face the frustration every day, will do me good.
Time to switch on the vacation mode and let my hand heal : beachcombing, walking on the sea shore, reading – a lot -, daydreaming…. I’m trying -again- to learn Spanish, my grand-mother’s language. This forbidden language has set many locks somewhere… But I think this time is the right one, I’ve tried a very good audio methode, I’m hooked. I still don’t know how to prononce the RRRR, which vex me a great deal but I’m hopeful.

Here is the promised picture : through the grape wine. The picture is taken on a rainy day, by my assemblage table.
And you know how much I love vintage treasure? I’ve been given a little treasure box by a sweet lady, this kind of gifts are the best ones!

Brass rings, brass and black enameled hooks, a brass curved bar and a fancy little belt ring. There are two objects I can’t identify, the first one is the little  black kind of pin on the right with a floral stamping,

A suivre!

and the second is this two parts brass device. A darning weaver…? This is the name but what is it for? The little hooks are turning in their sockets.
This is the summer game : the person who gives me a correct answer for these two objects wins…. I haven’t decided yet… The winner will be chosen in august!

Working for the new studio : updates
Attention travaux : suite

Souvenirs, souvenirs, it was a month ago and it already seemed to be last year!

C'était il y a un mois et j'ai l'impression que c'était l'an dernier!

The last house we visited in UK was Upton House in the North of the Cotswold

what is he doing?

Petite devinette : mais que fait-il?

He is cutting the different pieces of our new jigsaw : the plan in reduction for the wooden floor! This is what happen when you want a 1920s oak wooden floor...

Mr Tales is to be found in the shade

To prove it's no joke that the sun was shinning in UK in July here are some pictures of our visit to Kedleston Hall in Derbyshire, a very grand house we had visited last year but too quickly -it was 15 minutes before closing time... so this time we went slowly by and admired the magnificent interiors...Pour vous prouver que nous n'avons pas menti sur le temps splendide que nous avons eu en juillet en Angleterre, voici quelques photos de notre visite de Kedleston Hall, une magnifique demeure à côté de Derby.

(Click on the pictures to see them large)

"Take a trip back in time to the 1760s at this spectacular Neo-classical mansion framed by historic parkland.
Designed for lavish entertaining and displaying an extensive collection of paintings, sculpture and original furnishings, Kedleston is a stunning example of the work of architect Robert Adam.
The Curzon family have lived here since the 12th-century and continue to live at the Hall. Lord Curzon's Eastern Museum is a treasure trove of fascinating objects acquired on his travels in Asia and while Viceroy of India (1899 to 1905).
The Hall was used as a key location for 'The Duchess', the Hollywood blockbuster staring Keira Knightley."
Curzon intended Kedleston Hall to outshine the house of his Whig neighbour the Cavendishes at Chatsworth. He employed several architects and in December 1758 he met Robert Adam, who he would employ in his reconstruction of Kedleston. Curzon's cabinet-maker of choice was John Linnell. Linnell created the arguably the most magnificent sofas of the Georgian era for the Drawing Room at Kedleston. These sofas have sea nymphs, mermen and mermaids whose tails entwine as their armrests.[2] (wikipedia)

(wikipedia)

and now the complete opposite...
welcome in my future studio that we're building out of a derelict 4 walls neglected room which included a leaking water tank and old toilets that we had transformed 9 years ago for the washing machine... Electricity and pumbing have to be installed again from scratch

This exciting adventure began last spring with the demolition here : http://lucietales.blogspot.fr/2014/05/atelier-atelier-after-wrecking-party-we.html
and there : http://lucietales.blogspot.fr/2014/03/spring-time-cest-le-printemps-and-then.html

The old WC have been demolished to be rebuilt, now the entrance won't be from the outside anymore, they will have a tiny window looking out onto the terrace.
Okay, it's a little rough for now but I will gain some more square meters and 4 times more daylight!!!! It's like a dream, I'm so excited!!!! It's a huge project that takes our full time and fortunately we have the help of my father in law Pierre and Sophie

New bathroom window

Electricity wires and wooden structure to fix the insulation panels

Hemp panels and mineral woollen panels then a kind of film to avoid humidity and dust to come through

Here is the team (and me behind the camera)

The view on the garden from the door

That's all for now! I had hoped that I would have some time and energy left to work on new pieces in the actual studio but no, each evening I fall exhausted just after dinner... but so happy!

Visiting Packwood house and gardens with dear Marcia and Fern
We were admiring a huge fig tree, we had to check more closely!

The yew trees  and box topiaries were amazing
La partie des topiaires surprenante!

Exploding flowers borders!

We spent the most perfect holidays : perfect sunny weather, only two thunderstorms, one rainy morning, wonderful moments shared with Marcia, Fern, Heather, Gas, Michael and Barbara, splendid houses and gardens, a lovely campsite and loads of books to bring back home ! ;-)
