Working for the new studio : updates
Attention travaux : suite

Souvenirs, souvenirs, it was a month ago and it already seemed to be last year!

C'était il y a un mois et j'ai l'impression que c'était l'an dernier!

The last house we visited in UK was Upton House in the North of the Cotswold

an amazing park and gardens, an extraordinary painting collection constituted by a very interesting man, Lord Bearsted

my favorite part of the garden, the bog garden!

we had better rest before going home and work on the studio!

and now, the floor insulation

what is he doing?

Petite devinette : mais que fait-il?

He is cutting the different pieces of our new jigsaw : the plan in reduction for the wooden floor! This is what happen when you want a 1920s oak wooden floor...

Mr Tales is to be found in the shade

To prove it's no joke that the sun was shinning in UK in July here are some pictures of our visit to Kedleston Hall in Derbyshire, a very grand house we had visited last year but too quickly -it was 15 minutes before closing time... so this time we went slowly by and admired the magnificent interiors...Pour vous prouver que nous n'avons pas menti sur le temps splendide que nous avons eu en juillet en Angleterre, voici quelques photos de notre visite de Kedleston Hall, une magnifique demeure à côté de Derby.

(Click on the pictures to see them large)

"Take a trip back in time to the 1760s at this spectacular Neo-classical mansion framed by historic parkland.
Designed for lavish entertaining and displaying an extensive collection of paintings, sculpture and original furnishings, Kedleston is a stunning example of the work of architect Robert Adam.
The Curzon family have lived here since the 12th-century and continue to live at the Hall. Lord Curzon's Eastern Museum is a treasure trove of fascinating objects acquired on his travels in Asia and while Viceroy of India (1899 to 1905).
The Hall was used as a key location for 'The Duchess', the Hollywood blockbuster staring Keira Knightley."
Curzon intended Kedleston Hall to outshine the house of his Whig neighbour the Cavendishes at Chatsworth. He employed several architects and in December 1758 he met Robert Adam, who he would employ in his reconstruction of Kedleston. Curzon's cabinet-maker of choice was John Linnell. Linnell created the arguably the most magnificent sofas of the Georgian era for the Drawing Room at Kedleston. These sofas have sea nymphs, mermen and mermaids whose tails entwine as their armrests.[2] (wikipedia)

(wikipedia)

and now the complete opposite...
welcome in my future studio that we're building out of a derelict 4 walls neglected room which included a leaking water tank and old toilets that we had transformed 9 years ago for the washing machine... Electricity and pumbing have to be installed again from scratch

This exciting adventure began last spring with the demolition here : http://lucietales.blogspot.fr/2014/05/atelier-atelier-after-wrecking-party-we.html
and there : http://lucietales.blogspot.fr/2014/03/spring-time-cest-le-printemps-and-then.html

The old WC have been demolished to be rebuilt, now the entrance won't be from the outside anymore, they will have a tiny window looking out onto the terrace.
Okay, it's a little rough for now but I will gain some more square meters and 4 times more daylight!!!! It's like a dream, I'm so excited!!!! It's a huge project that takes our full time and fortunately we have the help of my father in law Pierre and Sophie

New bathroom window

Electricity wires and wooden structure to fix the insulation panels

Hemp panels and mineral woollen panels then a kind of film to avoid humidity and dust to come through

Here is the team (and me behind the camera)

The view on the garden from the door

That's all for now! I had hoped that I would have some time and energy left to work on new pieces in the actual studio but no, each evening I fall exhausted just after dinner... but so happy!

Stop procrastinating!
Halte à la procrastination!

Already 3 weeks that we're back from holidays and here is the first belated post about our journey to UK...
When we arrived we had to nurse our poor dying cat, 18 years old, bloved Maisie, so sweet till the last...
Thank you all for your kind and supportive messages!

First day in UK, Mr. Tales and I were warmly welcomed by Marcia in a delightful garden centre and cafe for a morning cafe : Hillers Farm and garden shop... I did not grab my camera this morning and I still regret it... so no picture of dear Marcia among roses in bloom but she kindly sent this little picture of her and Fern, her youngest daughter we met when Marcia invited us to dinner. We also met the young couple soon-to-be-married Heather and her fiancé, Gaz, and Marcia's brother. It was such a friendly evening! we even understood what they were talking about, and our English wasn't so bad either! Maybe the French white wine did help a little!!
In the pictures above, you can see the welcoming gifts Marcia offered me, a vintage toast dish and some exquisite earrings!! What a treat! I love these earrings, the balance between the shell and the fan filigree is perfect.
Marcia and I "met" some time ago on the web via her Etsy shop and blog and it was wonderful to meet in "real life". I had the privilege to visit her studio and see pieces of her jewelry that I admired before on my computer's screen. We talked "shop" of course!! Marcia  suggested some places to visit in the area, too many beautiful places to visit in 6 days, we'll have to come back!
It was a real pleasure to meet Marcia and her family and next year we're waiting for her visit in France!

She invited us to go car boot saling on a sunday morning, it was awesome! So, ready to see my treasures?

I bought some metal bracelets that I never see in France, some necklaces made of ceramics, wood - you were right Marcia! - and bone (the smallest one) that I will repurpose

a beautiful tea set! I've dreamed of one of those!!! 6 cups, saucers and plates in new condition, I'm so happy with it!!! Golden rim and a black, green and red Art Deco design. The porcelain is white with a tint of green and we can see through. I don't know a thing about English Porcelain, it's written "Mona, Clifton China, W.H.S. L", does anyone knows anything about it?

....and some -so British brass thingies that we love!

Are you still there? It's a looong post, haha! and it's only the beginning!! Now, we're going to visit Snowshill Manor and gardens!

Allons donc visiter Snowshill Manor and Gardens!

Let's meet Charles Wade, eccentric gentleman and owner of the house

The whole house is dedicated to his numerable collections and cabinets de curiosités, he was living with his wife in some rooms above the stables.

This is composed by all kinds of beetles and insects.

He has collected all that is handcrafted, from Japanese armors to all kinds of keys and locks, from needleworks to sedan chairs and first bicycles, it's simply amazing!

the famous Chinese jewelry, the blue is made with kingfisher's feathers

His own studio, he used to carve wood among other things

Even in the gardens, he made a harbor along one of the pool

It was one of the hottest days during the heat wave...

...nous cherchions l'ombre...

we were looking for shade...

... and benches

...et les bancs...

a wooden St Georges fighting the dragon outside the house chiming the bell

Okay, now some new earrings I've been making since our return!

Rainy clouds earrings (sold already) with some platinum Lustre droplets by the awesome Petra

Golden Dagger earrings, some reclaimed brass eyelets that I've cut and punched and aged with some vintage golden glass dagger beads (shiny) and vintage golden glass seed beads (matte), just listed in the shop. They have a je-ne-sais-quoi of Spanish, don't they? Not intended but I'm pleased with it. and I've changed my earwires designs for a change, smaller and the loop is made clockwise, haha, shall we discuss the pro and con for clock wise loops or anti-clockwise loops? might be boring for the non jewellers of you but anyway interesting!

I have two other pairs to show off but I'm not glad of my pictures so you'll have to wait for another post.... and this one is long enough, isn't it? Do you like shorts posts or longer ones? Please do tell!!!
