Some news

You've probably noticed my absence from my blog and the lack of new pieces.

For some months now, I've been checking the idiom that says ”when it rains, it pours”.

Last October, I bruised my right foot while simply walking (sesamoidopathy). For those who knew me, they know how much important it is for me to walk every day. It helps to balance my inner self.

In March I bruised my right hand again while simply opening a plastic food container (obviously my two years old injury wasn't properly healed). And these two injuries are coming in between periods of waiting for some medical tests and exams to be done in order to diagnose what is behind the pattern. I'm still not finished with those tests and let's say it's not a serene period, to say the least.

Comme les Anglais disent ”when it rains, it pours”, je ne connais pas d’équivalent en français, et vous? 

Depuis juillet 2016 je traverse une période difficile. 

Pour les lecteurs réguliers et ceux qui me connaissent, vous savez à quel point marcher chaque jour me permettait de m’équilibrer, or en octobre, en marchant, je suis blessée (sésamoïdopathie)

Mi-mars je me suis nouveau blessée à la main droite en ouvrant un tupperware (Récidive des déchirures musculaires d'il y a deux ans). Ces deux blessures arrivent dans le cadre d’un problème de santé plus général, dont des questions de tonicité musculaire, d’équilibre et d’extrême fatiguibilité en seraient les symptômes. Après des mois d'attente, depuis janvier des tests et examens pour un diagnostic sont en cours. 

Bref, ce n'est pas la forme, et c'est un euphémisme.

That is why there has been no new jewellery, no news, no pictures. I still can't work in the studio nor hold a camera nor use my keyboard to write. I'm using a vocal app and sometimes the misunderstandings are quite funny.

After a wordpress adventure, I’ve decided to come back to blogger. My website on wordpress was beautiful but there were some problems of maintenance and also because I didn't recognise myself anymore in this new site.

Since July I've taken a new path. I knew it would be long and difficult and I'm not being deceived. To make it short, till now, I had thought that I could change, that I could learn to be a different person than myself. My mistake. I mistook change for improvement, or is it the reverse? You know these simple aphorisms and little humoristic sentences that you can find on your Facebook wall? I remember having read one that went home sometime later  ”Be yourself, everybody else is taken”. So now, for several months, I’m walking along this difficult path of being myself. It’s a struggle, it’s painful, sometime I’m desperate but it’s the only way and I’m determined to go on.

Some new earrings in my Nacre Cuivrée series, these vintage red brass stampings are beautiful with their waves pattern, I found only two of them in a new old stock. I've soldered them on copper rings made from scratch and added some vintage Japanese faux pearl drops. Brass and copper are oxidized to enhance the pattern.

Une nouvelle paire dans la collection Nacre Cuivrée. Ces estampes anciennes en laiton rouge sont très belles avec leur motifs de volutes, je n'en ai trouvé que deux, ces boucles d'oreille sont donc uniques. J'ai soudé les estampes sur des anneaux en cuivre martelé réalisées de toute pièce par mes soins et j'ai complété la composition avec d'anciennes gouttes Japonaises en verre nacré. J'ai patiné le métal pour faire ressortir le dessin des estampes.

In the collection Cuivre Bleu, a new pair of earrings, some repurposed vintage settings with a striking blue patina, some handmade round shapes : I've foldformed some copper discs and then soldered to the rings. The blue patina is sealed with an epoxy varnish and the copper shape is sealed with a micro wax.

Dans la collection Cuivre Bleu les dernières nées : d'anciens sertis en laiton rouge détournés, martelés et patinés d'un bleu éclatant, des motifs réalisés en cuivre et laiton en utilisant la technique du pliage. La patine bleue est fixée avec un vernis epoxy et les formes en cuivre sont cirées avec une micro cire.

 A partir de formes arrondies anciennes en laiton, j'ai dessiné ces entrelacs, inspirées par le travail de la talentueuse Tracy DiPiazza. Les boules sont en céramique émail cuivre vieilli et réalisées artisanalement par Petra Carpreau bien sûr!

From vintage scrolls I designed these curlicues shapes inspired by the technique of the talented metalsmith Tracy DiPiazza of whom I admire the work. I added the antique copper lustre ceramic bobbles by Petra Carpreau of course!

and I'm also working on some new earrings and some necklaces too. And some brooches. I'm always working on different pieces at the same time. Some I started sometimes ago but need maturing. From time to time, I add something or move one element and that's it the piece is complete. For the "De Profundis" ring for example, I had made the fusing part with the little starfish or barnacle months ago... and it lays there on my desk and a few days ago I completed it.

It happens that I often find the solution while walking one morning on the beach. I firmly believe that the mechanics of the legs induces something in the brain ;-)

For other pieces I need to be elbow deep on my table  and try this and that.

Other times, I have an idea at the terrace of the café and draw something but once in the studio

This journal is the work of my friend the very talented Louise of Bibliographica

at the bench it will become something entirely different. And sometimes I only follow the material, that's what happened with the "De Profundis" ring.
I  am constantly searching for something, in constant evolution alongside trying new techniques. Some techniques I keep practising because I took a liking to it, like the rivets for example, some come and go when needed. I don't plan my work like some jeweller do designing entire collections each season, I'm not able to do so, to create something I have to let go, whereas planning is controlling. I can eventually sort my creations afterwards in different collections because of the inspiration, like the Sea urchin or Shells, or because of elements, like the artisan ceramic drops I love using in my designs, or because of a repeating elements like the found brass eyelets.
I think I just answered the question "How does your creative process work ?" :)

Why do you create what you do?
For me it is a need, when I'm working at my bench I'm here and now, a whole person. It's necessary, I can't live without. Once or twice, I declared "okay, it's sunday, so I'm not working" and then I'm like a lion in a cage, not knowing what to do with myself... right, I can read, work in the garden, work on the renovation of the house but nothing can give me what working at my bench does.
Previously that "need" had taken different forms, drawing, photographing, working for contemporary artists, sewing, designing my garden, but it wasn't as fulfilling and gratifying as designing and making jewelry is. What I particularly like is that when completed and eventually sold, a piece of jewelry will be worn by someone I don't know and this person will give this piece a whole new life, will attach personal meanings and intimate emotions to it.

How your work differ from others of its genre?

Difficult question. I don't like comparison, I don't think it positive, it's even destructive. I prefer to say that I feel or recognize a little something in the work of some artists and artisans that speak to me in a particularly way. 

Among these, I would like to name the wonderful work of Dawn from LaTouchables and of Jiorji of NearlyLost. On the 30th June it will be their turn to answer these questions!

Juin déjà

Each time I publish a post on that blog, I'm telling to myself, next time, a very short post but several times a week instead of one long long long post.... an dthen the week pass and eventually a second week, I procrastine, and I end with so much material.... and I could save some to shorten the post and make another one a few days later, but when I start I want to put it all, like when you invite people to dine over and you prepare a 4 courses meal, afraid that there isn't enough. Not very pertinent comparison though... 

So now, you're been prepared ;-)

Bon, à chaque fois que je publie un billet sur ce blog, je me dis : la prochaine fois je le fais plus court et je garde le matériel pour refaire un billet quelques jours après. ET puis le temps passe, je procrastine et je me rterouve avec des tonnes de choses à montrer... En fait quand je commence à billet, je veux tout mettre dedans, je n'arrive pas à en garder de côté pourla fois suivante. Un peu comme quand on invite des gens et on veut faire une entrée, un plat et puis le fromage ET le dessert. Bon, ma comparaison n'est pas des plus pertinentes....

Bref, vous êtes averti, il y a à boire et à manger! ;-)

Un tout petit fragment de porcelaine lavée par le ressac des vagues et trouvé sur la plage 

and I wanted to try some fine silver to make a setting instead of the usual sterling silver a little hard to push over. I love the fragment of the pattern. It looks like a feather. I used the shard as found.

et puis je voulais essayer l'argent fin pour faire un serti, beaucoup plus malléable que l'argent 925. J'aime le fragment du dessin, on dirait une plume. J'ai utilisé le fragment tel que je l'ai trouvé sur la plage.

I've oxidized it as I don't like polished shiny silver and I find that the oxidized silver fits the blue of the ceramic.

And the journal underneath my hand is my every day every moment companion, one without I'm lost, one of the extraordinary work of my dear friend Louise from Bibliographica.

The hand is mine, the only always available hand  ;-)

J'ai oxydé l'argent comme je n'aime pas l'argent poli et brillant et je trouve ma fois que ça va bien avec le bleu du fragment.

Et le journal sous ma main,  est l'oeuvre extra-ordianire de mon amie Louise de Bibliographica. Il me suit partout, c'est mon fdèle companion.

La main est la mienne, et oui je fais mannequin aussi, disons que c'est la seule main disponible en permanence, héhé

Since the last post, I made  and listed some new earrings and they're all sold I'm afraid, so I find it's not very fine to show off some pieces no more available but then.... I love them and want to boast anyway, so here they are! ;-P

Depuis le dernier billet et bien j'ai réalisé plusieurs paires de boucles d'oreille mais vu le temps qui passe et moi qui ne fais un billet que tous les  36 du mois et bien elles sont vendues depuis.... mais bon, je vous les montre quand même!

another version of the oval copper (in fact red brass) kuchi earrings, this time with some tiny delicate kuchi hearts, and when on the ears, the kuchi is dangling and making a tiny bell sound :)

une autre version des b.o. ovales cuivrées, cette fois-ci avec un petit coeur embossé qui tinte joliment à l'oreille lorsque portées.

A combination of some stylized flowers saw cut in brass and then aged, some antique silver plated  stampings riveted and the awesome Petra Carpreau's ceramic spikes, "fired with Black Diamond Glaze" hence the sparkly elements underneath

Une association de fleurs stylisées que j'ai découpées dans du laiton et patinées puis rivetées avec d'anciens éléments ajourés en argent plaqué et évidemment, de superbes pièces en céramique de Petra Carpreau

Some copper (red brass) with blue patina riveted. I did struggled to take loads of failed pictures, you know with some reflection on the metal and weird colors. And at the end, I remembered I once or twice used that brass cup, and bingo, this is the best picture!

Des boucles d'oreille disques cuivrés et patinés bleus et rivetés. J'ai pas mal galéré pour prendre des photos de ces pièces, à chaque fois j'avais un reflet immonde et de drôles de couleurs. Et puis à la fin, je me suis souvenue que j'avais utilisé cet ancien pot en laiton pour d'autres photos. Et voilà!

Okay, to make amends I'll show you the ones I just listed so they're available - well they still are at the time I'm writing this ;-P

These earrings are inspired by the work of the most talented ceramist Petra Carpreau. These Platinum Lustre droplets are simply amazing. 

I've made some shell shapes, slightly asymetric and curved. I've kept the hammered texture of the forming process and using Fancy's technique of the plumber putty, I've layered the inside and then powdered it with bronze powder.

So the material contrasts are reversed or in a loop, metal looking like ceramic looking like metal lookink like ceramic!

Ces boucles d'oreille sont inspirées par les gouttes de céramiques de Petra, bien sûr, des gouttes platine craquelé et bronze. J'ai martelé de l'aluminium récupéré pour former des sorte de coques asymétriques et légèrement incurvées qui rappellent la forme de certains coquillages. J'ai gardé la marque du martelage qui forme de micro facettes sur la surface du métal.A l'intérieur de ces coques, j'ai appliqué une fine couche de résine que j'ai poudrée de bronze, en écho au bronze des gouttes de céramique.Les gouttes de céramiques sont le résultat du travail artisanal de Petra Carpreau, qui a réalisé ces gouttes en utilisant de l'émail à craqueler et une couche d'émail Platine.J'aime les contrastes de matières et ici les contrastes sont inversés, le métal ressemble à de la céramique et la céramique ressemble à du métal, la céramique ressemble au métal qui à l'apparence de la céramique qui ressemble au métal.

I've made another version of my riveted ring, copper and oxidized silver, this is the first one made just for the like of it, it's not reserved nor custom made, it's available in the shop, yes!

and THE ring! last time I shared my wanderings about the width of the band and proportions and silver finish because I don't like it polished.... Tadaaaa!!! here is the result and I like it very much I must say. For the silver finish, I've simply applied my Granite touch of my Granite ring! and oxidized the silver so it's darker in the grooves of the texture and it suits the druzy of the rough tourmaline perfectly! Maybe I lack modesty but I don't care, I'm happy with it :D so I boast with another picture!

 et LA bague! La dernière fois, je vous parlais de mes errements et questionnements à propos de la largeur du bandeau et de proportions et aussi de la finition de l'argent, que je n'aime pas poli... et voici le résultat!! et je dois dire que j'en suis très contente. Pour la finition de l'argent et bien, j'ai appliqué la même technique que pour ma bague Granit! et j'ai oxydé l'argent comme ça le noir reste dans les creux et ça va parfaitement avec le granité de la pierre en tourmaline brute non taillée!!! Peut -être que je manque de modestie mais tant pis, je suis contente! :D et donc je biche en vous montrant une autre photo!
